Question:
My 2001 Silverado has just over 226,500 miles, and I want to do more performance work to it. I already have exhaust, K&N intake, Jet mass air sensor and a hypertech programmer. It has a 5.3 with a rebuilt 4L60E. I'd love to do a supercharger or turbo and cam. I know these will wear my truck down a bit, but HOW bad? It runs great now, and is even more perky and faster than new.
Plus which one is better? Supercharger or Turbo?
Here's my cardomain page if y'all want to check it out and give me your opinions on it, or get more info to give me a better answer. Thanks a lot in advance!

Before you buy the supercharger get a leak down test performed on your engine. This will tell you the condition of your engine. It will let you know if you are loosing compression and that something might be worn out inside the engine.Personal Work Jacket with name tag?
If the engine is in great condition it should generally show only 5 to 10% leakage. An engine that is still in pretty good condition may show leakage around 22%. Anything below 30% of leakage means your engine is worn out.

If everything checks out good, then your engine will be able to hold up with a supercharger.

Now that that’s out of the way, you might want to look into Magnacharger as an option. The biggest advantage this supercharger has over other force induction systems is that it offers high levels of boost in the lower RPM range. This means that you will have HP and torque throughout the RPM band. So it’s great for towing and it will give you more HP off the line.
Also, most supercharger manufactures design their systems around stock engines. This means that you will need to set your Hypertech back to stock settings. The supercharger will come with a superchip to control the fuel and timing curves. If you want to eliminate the speed limit or higher the shift points you will need to get a custom chip burned for what modifications you have. I’m not sure if the stock supercharger programming will work well with the Jet Mass air, you might want to contact Jet to see if it will work well with the supercharger. The supercharger also comes with its own discharge tube so your K&N will also get eliminated, however you might can modify the one you have to have a custom feel.
Btw…clean truck.
