You are required to have insurance and registration to drive it and if they tow it you are responsible for it. They can still repo it if they want, they just get a tow truck and a court order. All in all it is your responsibility to pay for the car, fix the car and make sure all of your ducks are in a row. prbably going to cost you quite a bit of money. If you don't take care of the financial part of it your credit will be down the tubes and you will regret that for seven years after it is paid for.
