Question:
Electric motor technolgy has not changed in a 100 years. Electrric trains in Canada 1910 to 1945 were popular. like in Europe today. That new fast train is electric. The new fast electric cars can travel up to 180mph and travel 240 miles on a charge. These are not hybrids these are straight electrics. The new batteries make it possible. But will they survive or be trashed.
Answers:
Talked my way out of speeding ticket - how lucky am I?
-------Yes, I think the time of the electric vehicle is coming, very soon. Attempts have been made over the years to suppress the relevant technology, or plant disinformation about electric cars. The driving range problem, for example, has been solved by 10-minute recharge batteries, but this information is not in the media.

At the moment, the USA has the technological lead in electric vehicle technology - examples:
How much would gas have to cost before you would change your driving habits?
-Fast charging batteries (10 minute recharge, 250,000 mile lifetime) in this electric pickup truck, which is already being sold:

So is it ture what every one says you have to check ur mirrors every 7 secons?
But we will lose that lead, if we don't support our own technology, or worse, stand by while these startup companies are sabotaged by the usual suspects. The Chinese are mass-producing electric cars, and have developed very cheap battery technology. Here is a page with some Chinese EVs they would love to import to the USA - notice the prices start at only $6500, and they are actively seeking US distributors:

In today's national climate, electric cars won't sell well. The range is getting better and batteries are becoming more reliable, but americans like to drive a lot, and a 240 mile range is still troublesome. E.V. recharge is not like gas and go, it takes a while to happen. I think E.V.s might be good for those with a short commute, and can get into the habit of always plugging in when they get home. Some communities are starting to promote E.V.s as good alternatives for short commutes, like Lincoln California

but venture out of town and the drive isn't a good experience.
The best hope for E.V.s to become mainstream as a viable form of transport, is for them to become the only realistically priced mode of transport, when gas prices become VERY expensive, like over $5 a gallon year round.
