Does anyone know if in fact parking a car with auto tranny prolong the life of the tranny?

Question:
I park my 2004 car with the parking brake on, I do know that if I do, and apply the brake before taking my foot off the regular brake, it tends to not jerk like cars tend to do when one puts them in park. I was told that it helps prolong the life of the transmission, my boyfriend doesnt agree though, I don't think. Does anyone know this for a fact?

Answers:

can we run an automobile without any fuel?

parking on a hill is a good time to use E brake .
i use mine all the time . say my cat / truck gets hit and is pushed into whatever . my brake being on keeps wheels locked ,where the tranny could brake loose .

Should there be a car tax for SUV's?

You have a 100% chance of killing your trans faster. The person that told you this is wrong and may need money.
But don't take my word or your boyfriends or the one that told you this take it to a auto shop and ask at least 3 people then you decide.

In a Northeast US climate, does my car need to warm up before I drive it? Or can I start it and go?

Yeah it is a fact, but it really only matters when you're parking on an incline or a decline. It keeps the stress from the weight of the vehicle off of the tranny and puts it on the e-brake instead. (which is a whole lot bettah).
