I am buying a new LWB commercial Land Rover Defender for work off road but every fortnight I have to make a 300 mile (each way) drive on the motorway. I realise it is pretty basic and am not concerned about that but will it drive comfortably and safely at 70mph without deafening me with wind noise? Also, do think it is worthwhile paying the obscene extra amount to have ABS and traction control?

I used to own a series 3 Landrover and the thing could go anywhere on road or off. Traction control is a good idea, as ALL new Landy's are permanent 4X4. ABS is also a good idea, as there will be a lot of weight to stop at 70mph.I would also consider a good winch if you are going seriously off road. Saved my bacon a few times I can tell you.

My brother had one, and we did a few 600 mile (one way) trips in it. I say get one, and put a decent stereo in it, they are a bit noisy.Are some cat back exhaust legal or pass a MOT?
I'd also go with the traction control and the ABS. They weigh a lot and can be tricky to stop in the wet.
