Im assuming it is an automaatic ? I it is a stick you may need a clutch. Automatic then star your car and shift through the gears and pull the autotrans dip stick read one side of the stick then turn it over check the side.that Fll it to the low side of the dip stick. most times you ill get two different readings always read the low side of the stick. if you are up then go to cheapest and easiest. When was the last time the fluid was changed?? if it has been 100,000 miles ago you have to make a decision. If you change the fluid and filter it may just never even get out of your driveway again untill you rebuilt it. If it des go then great. You also may have a vacum problem. On a mercedes The modulater may be on the side of the tranny look around there and you may see a small can about 2 inches across with a fitting for a tube on the end if there is nothing like a tube going to the fitting look around and you may see a small hose that needs to be pluged back into the fitting or you may need to bend the hose and look for cracks on the vacum hose if it is leaking you wont get the shift you desire. If all is in tack change out the fluid hey its broken anyway right?? See what happens. If it keeps doing the same you may try a good adjustment to the bands. No heplp?? gotta rebuild. Ask around to different mechaniics find out where they would take their car to or where do they send there customers to and go there. If they would send there customers there then its probobley a good spot cause they dont want to loose customers so they want it done right. I worked in different shops i know this to be true.
