I had a 1987 Taurus and it was a great car,but i've heard the newer ones have problems.

OK... here's the real story!The Taurus was one of the most successful models ever by any manufacturer.
Not only did it appeal to families but to many many many businesses.
It was sold both retail & fleet.
It was also built at 2 plants, Chicago & Atlanta.
In 2006 (here's where it gets confusing) Ford REPLACED the Taurus with the FUSION for RETAIL sales.
But CONTINUED to build the Taurus for its vast FLEET market, but only built them at the Atlanta plant.
Ford also introduced a new model in 2005, the FiveHundred.
The Five Hundred was/is LARGER than the Taurus/Fusion size.
So all the '06 & '07 Taurus's were originally built for & could ONLY be ordrered for FLEETS. (companies, ordering 10 or more would be considered fleet) You could not buy just one for yourself.
Those fleets have an agreement with Ford, after 1-2 years, when they are through with them, Ford buys them back, & Ford auctions them to Ford Dealers.
They are then known as "program cars"
The price that you are looking at is a pretty good deal. My dealership buys as many of these as we can get our hands on and I sell them left & right.
It is one of the best values in a used car on the market today.

There were 2 recalls on this vehicle, one involved the windshield wiper, & one affected 19 vehicles bought by one fleet customer, & involved the re-wiring of the passenger air bag LAMP (not the airbag itself). The rewiring was done at their request to accomodate additional electronic equipment & legally had to be recalled & rewired befor these vehicles could be resold as program cars.

Now to make things even more confusing:
Ford did some research on the Five Hundred, (which by the way, is a great car & is very highly rated by consumers, & the NHTSA & the Insurance Institute, and Consumer Report Magazine) as to why it was a slow seller.
What they found was that people were slow to recognize the NAME. They hardly knew it existed ! And since Ford already had a good thing with the Taurus NAME. .& the Chicago plant (which used to build the VERY popular Taurus) now builds the Five Hundred .And they stopped offering the Taurus to the fleet cuustomers ..Ford has now decided to change the NAME of the FiveHundred to Taurus when they redesign it for 2008.

The 06 Taurus is a good car and very dependableThe trouble with Ford is that once the warranty expires, so does the rest of the car. It's a built-in S.D.M. (Self Destruct Mechanism that Ford engineers refer to as Planned Obsolescence, or Ford Quality. Caveat Emporum.

Certainly. The 2006 Taurus may not be as powerful as some of the other cars in its class, but then again its not as pricey either.The gear shift down is relatively fast which is great for overtaking other vehicles.
The engine is amazingly quiet (both at idling and highway speeds).
The boot of the car is rather large, and the rear seat can quite comfortably seat 2 adults with ample leg and head room, or 3 children without a hassle. Also with the option of being able to fold down the rear seat to extend the boot the car becomes even roomier.
The car also has great handling with very little lean in on tight corners.
And finally because of the size and compatability of the Taurus, you arnt going to have any hassles finding after market parts incase you want to 'pimp your ride'.

The only problem that has been found with the newer Taurus's is the suspension is a bit stiff, but its nothing to be concerned about, and I wouldnt let the matter of the suspension being stiffer than usual throw me off of a great deal. Although if it was a bother to you, you can pick up new racing suspension sets (which is more than ample for the Taurus) for under $200.

i own a repair shop,and yes they are actually good cars,and not everyone is down on them,just the people who have owned them,and had a lot of problems from the,some people have owned them,and never had any problems from them,my dad drove one for years,and never had problems from it,so it just goes to show you not all of them are bad,any car will give problems if you don't take care of it,so if you found a real good deal on one buy it,your going to be the one driving it,not everyone else,when i see something i like i don't worry about other peoples thoughts on it,good luck with it,i hope this helps.How would you turn off a hot-wired car?
