How many miles per gallon does a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme get?

Well, you can try to argue that you ran the light, because it was an emergency. Tell the prosecutor, that your baby sitter just called and your child was vomiting blood... you can try to argue that it wasnt you driving, because you lent the car to a friend. You might be able to make a deal with the prosecutor that would allow you to pay the ticket, but the points wont be on your license.
You can argue that you saw a drunk driver, and you were trying to speed up to see his license plate number so you could get ahold of the police.
But of course, lying is not a good thing to do.

I have an Oldsmobile Alero. How can I shut the stupid headlights off?

Lay the nasty little sucker on a solid, non-marring surface; get out your Louisville slugger and pelt that dog with as many vicious blows as your little biceps can muster; while you do this, it's important to remember how self-indulgently stupid it was of you to ignore the red light, and thank God it didn't result in you getting killed or killing some one else; promise yourself— as you pay the ticket— that you will remember the YELLOW light means STOP; not just the red one.

Horsepower rating?

If you want to take the time, you may be able to beat it. They don't synchronize those cameras as often as they should and, even if they did, many states have rules of evidence that will allow you to beat the ticket if the person that synched the camera doesn't show up in court. The prosecutor isn't going to want to go to all of that trouble for a speeding ticket unless you have a bad driving record. Go to court, ask the prosecutor for a deferred prosecution and stay out of trouble for six months. Otherwise you can hire an attorney and probably get out of it but that is not financially practical unless you are very afraid of your insuring skyrocketing or losing your license due to points.

Once they have you on camera, and have mailed out the ticket, there isn't much you can do. Oh, you can plead not guilty, and ask for a trail, they will bring in the pictures, and you will pay the fine AND the court costs.

took my car to the mechanic and he fixed the brakes fine. However it's idling very high and it wasn't before.

you cannot beat this type of ticket - they literally have "caught in the act" photos of you running the light and you cannot refute this evidence in court. take your medicine, pay your fine and stop running red lights.
