What percentage of cars on the road are equipped with manual trannsmissions, as opposed to automatics?

Question:
By manual transmissions, I mean a regular manual with a real clutch. Automatic includes everything else (tiptronic, manumatic, whatever). A source of the info would be great too.

Answers:

where can i find a list of the weight limits that apply on London's bridges?

I suppose a person would have to look at what came off of every manufacturers assembly line and then their sales..it would be a tough study that would be very expensive but not very accurate.

Why cherry picker basket leaders (trucks) are up when parked?

In the UK most cars (probably 98%) are manual gear boxes.
That's why we are far better drivers than you guys in the US.
I know this because I have driven extensively in the US.
You guys with your automatic gear boxes don't need to know the needs of your engine.
Remember the engine should be treated the same way you make love to a woman.

Does anyone know of any books (English) about Unimogs?

i would guess about ten percent of cars on the road are stickshifts, but i could be wrong. it's just a guess.
it's too bad they're not as common these days as they used to be. it took me time to like and get used to manual transmission cars, but now that's what i drive: a silver 2000 vw jetta with a true stickshift, to be exact. and they're better than those what i like to call "pseudo stickshifts." if it doesn't have a clutch, it's not manual for me. and my husband drives a stickshift too.
manuals have better gas economy, better power, and there's more control for the driver. plus you're forced to pay attention to your driving and you can't distract yourself with a stick like you can with an automatic (have you tried switching gears and doing something else besides steer the wheel? impossible). thus, there's a lower risk for accidents.
okay, now that i almost went off on a tangent, let me go...
long live stickshifts!
