As I remember it the American congress set strict fuel consumption goals and soon American cars got smaller. Now when I look on the internet lots of models seem to have 400 hp V8s, or are large SUVs.

its as simple as this POLITICSalso the auto industry basically makes up the mpg rasting on vehicles sold today. the formula they use is from 1960 or so which is not accurate at all on todays fuel injected cars. thats why u buy a big truck that will get 21mpg and u can never get more that 8 mpg. they are refiguring this system and will have a new one in place soon so the american people and the government know just how much are cars suck - fuel that is
