If it was the alternator, then the car would die regardless of whether or not you had your foot on the gas, but if your battery isn't holding a charge, then when you hold your foot on the gas, the alternator is working more to send higher voltage to the battery, and if the battery is bad, then essentially it means that your car is running off of the alternator. When you let your foot off of the gas, the alternator slows down, which means that it is sending less voltage to the battery, which if it isn't holding a charge, won't have enough 'juice' to power your car.

IT sound to me you got fuel starvation problem non-of the above or your air filter is blocked and you don't get air into your engine let me know please fuel starvation is either a block filter or a blocked fuel line or it could be your intake manifold that is loose.Are flex-fuel engines as reliable as gasoline engines?
