Answers:

Which is the most powerful car engine provided commercially and by which company?

What's impossible? It's a 5.7L chevy 350, the worlds most common friggin motor.

If you could, would you participate in the cannonball run?

Anyway, being that it was made in 1980, it probably doesn't have too much power, the age of smog control really sucked the life out of the little 350. It probably has around 200hp, and 300 lb ft of torque. maybe. A 350 can really easily be hopped up though. Get yourself a summit catalog and go to town. For $1000 you could have a really nice 350.

Car/Truck/Boat repossesion TV show, made me wonder?

Not as much as you hope. Those motors were made for torque not hp. I would guess they were rated around 190hp. But a good set of heads and a decent rebuild and the heavy duty parts in the motor will make a good foundation for a pavement monster.

"lowering a 4x4 vehicle's tire pressure has what primary advantage when off-roading?

For a 1980 model 350 engine you're talking around 200 horsepower. 350's are getting harder to find these days also.
