Can I leave my car bra on while I wash the car?

So I have a black "leather" car bra, and my dad says I cannot leave it on while I wash it. I go to the self-serve car wash places with the power hoses. So is he right, should I take it off every time I wash it? Or Leave it on? Whats the diffrence between that and when it rains?

I have one on my car and it's been on there for 8 years and I never take it off, it fits tight enough that I can wash the car and while drying the hood off with a chamoy I check underneath it and it's never wet so I would say to leave it on if it fits good and once a year take it off and wax under it.

Dirt gets under the bra and acts like sand paper, which scratches the paint. You shouldn't be leaving the bra on in the rain either.
