I would say in the middle. If you consider the wheels as fulcrums and the bus itself as a lever this would make the middle the smoothest place. When the front wheels hit a bump, the rear wheels become the fulcrum and as you know, the motion of the lever will increase exponentially as you get further away from the fulcrum. The same is true when the rear wheel hit a bump. With this in mind, if you sat in the front or back, half of the effect of each bump would be smooth and half would be rough. The only "happy medium" is to split the difference and sit in the middle. Now, to complicate things, no matter where you sit your overall experience will have the same "average discomfort" because the entire bus will go over the bump and therefor you, as a passenger, will feel the bump in its entirety. Your only choice is whether you want a lot of small bumps, as in the middle, or some big ones and some small ones, as in either end. One more thing to consider, from a mechanical standpoint, is that the front suspension on a bus does ride smoother. The rear has dual wheels and is designed to handle heavier loads and therefor rides a little rougher. Lastly, some newer buses have air suspension that allows both the front and rear to ride about the same, with this setup your only concern is to get a good seat.More Questions & Answers ...
