1st it simply is a lid to the jar. secondly it has a pressure release setting which allows the car to exhale coolant when it gets too hot. on most cars it also allows the coolant system to to put coolant back in to the engine by opening when the engine is warm and/or cold and sucking coolant back in to the engine to eliminate a vacuum in the coolant system

Its to keep your radiator fluid pressure contained.how do i pass the driving test at the Montebello DMV?
A high pressure cap used in radiators to allow operation at high temperaturei need home ecprress couriers web site?
The radiator cap not only holds in fluid but mainly regulates pressure in the cooling system which helps keep the temp down. It also protects against over pressure by releasing coolant to the overflow when the pressure gets too high.what you run over the person if the traffic light was green, but for pedestrian red?
the radiator cap allows you to check and add fluid,it also increases the pressure in your rad to increase the boiling point of the coolant (250 degrees app).it also vents off excess pressure of you overflow but also allows it to be drawn back into the rad as the coolant cools9006 Standard Watt Vs. 9006 High Watt. i'm pretty sure its just there to add to my confusion when i look under the hood.if you are rich does that make you popular?
it keeps the pressure regulated in the cooling system so it maintains a steady amount of pressure at all times ,this keeps the engine at a certain temperature at all times and controls heating, and cooling at the same time, and it also helps keep the coolant level correct in the cooling systems on most newer vehicles by drawing or dis-charging excess coolant from the reservoir when it needs it,,good luck.is a 2003 mustang considered a musclecar?
Water or water solution boils at a higher temperature if under pressure the radiator cap is a device spring loaded to obtain that pressure allowing for the engine to operate at a high temerature without boiling. How does a car horn make noise?
The radiator cap is a cap that you put in the radiator to close it. It's functions, so that coolant won't leak, it pressurized the coolant so that the coolant will circulate the engine thus keeping the engine cool.the radiator cap acts as more than just a "lid" for your radiator; it keeps your engine cool by sealing and pressurizing the coolant inside it. What makes the radiator cap special is that it is designed to hold the coolant in your radiator under a predetermined amount of pressure. If the coolant was not kept under pressure, it would start to boil, and soon you would have boiled all of your coolant away. However, the radiator (or pressure) cap prevents this from happening by exerting enough pressure to keep the coolant from boiling. Normally, water (coolant) boils at 212 degrees F, but if the pressure is increased, the boiling temperature is also increased. Since the boiling point goes up when the pressure goes up, the coolant can be safely heated to a temperature above 212 degrees F without boiling. What makes this important is that the higher the temperature of the coolant is, the greater the temperature gap between it and the air temperature is. This is the principle that causes the cooling system to work; the hotter the coolant is, the faster the heat in it moves to the radiator and the air passing by. So, a cooling system under pressure takes heat away from the engine faster, which makes it more efficient. If your cooling system is under too much pressure, it can "blow its top"! To prevent this, the radiator cap has a pressure relief valve. The valve has a preset rating that allows it to take just up to a certain amount of pressure........hope you like this infomation!
