Gas economy question?

if you are rolling, braking, or at a standstill, it saves gas to shift into neutral, right? i'm talking about automatic transmission cars.

Hi,

how can a fly be in mid air in a moving vehicle and not be pushed to the back?

Yes, you will see some slight difference, but not much as the reduced speed of the engine causes the torque converter to reduce the torque on the engine when you are completely stopped or slowing down or braking, so it just basically maintains a fluid connection but not like when you are accelerating or driving.

Who finds tractors and coaches the most annoying thing in the world?

No - it is actually harder on your transmission especially if you are moving when you switch than you will ever save in gas.

Have you ever used the Heat and the A/C in the car on the same day...If you are from Michigan you should've?

I would guess that any savings would be extremely minute, and un-noticable at the pump.

The big savings occur with HOW you drive the car.
Plus a high flow air filter helps!

Car was hit while "illegally" parked in driveway of my apt. am I at fault legally?

Shifting into neutral releases all the energy stored in the torque converter, leave it in gear so you don't have to rebuild this energy. Gas savings is unnoticeable.

what will happend if i don't go with car for emision test?

Ok there is good and bad to this I have wonderd this too and studied the answer as it will save a very small amount of gas however the valve body on your automatic transmission wont be able to handle that constant neutral to drive type thing it will wear the valve body on yout transmission becasue it shifts with vacume pressure so unless your car is from the 70s and gets 12 m.p.g and you wont care to junk it go for it if. If you want to save yoru self the costy repair in the near future just suffer with the small increase in fuel economy.

why doesnt my fourwheeler brake even though my brake pads are good?

No ! A car burns more fuel at an idle because its mixture is richer to keep the engine running(ex: more raw fuel , less air!)

Is there anything bad with hybrid cars?

In theory it would due to the less load on your engine. But is it really worth the hastle to put it in park or neutral every time you stop.

need to find out how to figure out if a 48' flatbed truck is overweight?

lleave it in gear it is safer and you wont see enough difference to make a difference

How can I find or trace a 1969 car that I once owned.?

Your gas savings in these situations would be minimal and the cost of an eventual new transmission from excessive shifting will negate any gas savings.

shouldn't all gasoline filler tubes be on the driver side of the car?

The only time I could see this being worthwhile would be on a long downhill commute where you do not need to apply gas for miles at a time...although it is unsafe and illegal to drive while not in gear.

No it does the opposite because it requires a more richer fuel mixture to keep the car at idle.
