have you checked if there is a key hole under were you open the boot switch,if this is in the lock position then it wont open also is there a key lock inside the car for the boot as this stops any one from opening it while you are driving,have a look in the manual if you have one

If the doors still unlock, it's a question of dropping the back seats and crawling into the boot with torch and screwdriver; he should be able to spring the lock from inside. Then he can work on the lock, it may just be a loose electrical connection.

What about trying to move the backseat forward, can that be done. Then you can move stuff out of the boot . Don't know if it can be done in Modern cars but i know in older type you can move the backseat forward. Just my opinion. Good luck, hope you manage. :))
