In my opinion, what matters most is a combination of the driver and the type of tires you have. These vehicles are all 2-Wheel Drive, which still isn't as good as All-Wheel Drive or 4-Wheel Drive in the snow and ice (I've lived in northern Michigan my whole life, so I have had some experience driving in snow with different drivetrains).

BMW's convertibles (3-Series, 640CI, Z3, Z4, and Z8) are all Rear-Wheel Drive, which is considered the least-suitable for ice and snow. On the other hand, I know that if you drive carefully and put on good snow tires, you shouldn't have any problems unless you go up a steep, icy hill and use too much throttle.

As for snow tires, I personally recommend the Pacemark Snowtrakkers by Goodyear. These can be bought through (of all places) Wal*Mart, and they've proven an extremely durable, popular tire in northern Michigan because of their cheap price, very deep tread with an excellent pattern, and excellent performance in snow. You just have to remember to remove them in the spring, because dry roads will wear them down in no time.
