Isn't it about time car makers got their fingers out?
yes no problem, look in the handbook and it will give you the maximum towing weights the manufacturer recommends, both with or without breaks on the trailer you are towing. Most organisations recommend that you only tow something with a maximum weight of 3/4 of the gross weight of your own vehicle for stability and safety reasons. You should be able to tow most lightweight caravans up to about 17 ft with your Astra.Which brand of tire is better?
Look in the owner's manual and it will give you the towing weights and tongue weight.I towed mine (16 feet) with a 1.4 Astra no problem. Its not the pulling but the braking when you worry about weight.
What's the difference between an Elise and an Exige?
A 1.8 engine is more than enough to pull most caravans (assuming your car is in good working order). But i would urge you to consider selling your caravan and getting a hotel instead so people like me dont get stuck behind you on country roads. !! :)
