I don't know much about cars. I am getting my windows tinted today on my toyota avalon. I don't really know what to tell them when I get there. I know hat 35% is the legal limit for all the windows here including the back. But I think I read somewhere that cars already have slightly tinted windows so putting a 35% on my windows would actually make it darker than allowed. Advice please?

When you choose your tint, they will give you a card/pamphlet that you keep in your glove box that has your tint number. This will help you if you ever get pulled over, because most cops just "eye it." I have been pulled over about my tint once and it is at least 2 shades above the legal limit.
Ask the person doing it. They will know. In most states there is only a limit on tinting the windshield and front side windows. There is not a requirement to even have a rear window or rear side windows. Example: Delivery vans. Stay legal on the front sides and get the rest as dark as you can.

yes it can. the glass comes tinted from the factory. make sure you can look at some samples so you can get a idea what it is going to look like.Actually, call the local police department on the regular line, NOT 911! and ask if they could tell you. In my state, they can sell whatever tint they want, but laws dictate a maximum of 18%.

There is an easy way to tell, look on the bottom corner of you windows and there will be the name of the glass company and a few other things. Look for a number with a % next to it, that is the tint in the window. Also, clear glass is actually 2-3% already, so if you put on 35% you will actually be darker than 35% and if you get an asshole cop messing with you, you may find yourself with a ticket. If you want to stay legal go with 40%. Not all tint companies carry it, but if you want to stay legal, do your research.
