CA drivers- how old do you have to be to be driven around by a new licensee?

Question:
To clarify, one of my friends is sixteen and she just got her driver's license. I am 18 and a licensed driver. Can my friend drive me around? (CA residents only please! We have wierd laws here...)

Answers:

Is this fair?

From the CA DMV website: "This means you cannot give anyone under 20 years old (your friends, your brother(s), sister(s), cousin(s), etc.) a ride unless you have a licensed parent, a guardian or other adult 25 years old or older in the car with you. You are also not allowed to drive between 11 pm and 5 am during your first year after getting your license unless you have a licensed parent, a guardian or other adult 25 years old or older in the car with you."

So, it looks like your friend can not drive you unless you guys also have someone over 25 in the car with you. Hope this helps.I live in San Diego and I know we have weird laws here in CA :)
