What does "engine miss" mean?

Question:
Considering buying this car, says it runs good but has engine "miss". What is that?

I'm not a mechanic but my guess would be you need to change your spark plugs.

Usually an engine miss is that the engine isn't timed properly. It could be fixed as easily as adjusting the distributer cap or as complicated as changing the timing chain.

Does buying hybrid cars really save us a lot of money?

That means the engine is misfiring. I don't think that would qualify as running good. Your pistons are supposed to be timed and combust in order, if they are off the veh either does not run, or runs bad. I would find out what is causing the misfire before I decide whether or not to purchase it.

I'm not a mechanic or anything, I'm sure someone has a better explaination than me. If you are in doubt have a mechanic look at it.

This could be caused by many things like a vacuume leak or ignition problems.

It means the engine is misfiring, most probably electrical, can be difficult to find the cause, some cars need a diagnostic`s check to find the cause which means going to a main dealer, in the U.K this will cost about £70 and may have to be repaired by them, it all depends on the cars ECU(computer), tell the person who own`s the car that you will buy it once the problem is corrected.

Misfire can be caused by either electrical (spark) or fuel issues, best way to find out is to take it to a qualified sho and have them check it out.
