Instead of injecting NOS, why don't people use pure oxygen or high proof alcohol?

Question:
On street legal cars NOS is the only thing I know of you can inject into your engine to get a hp gain. Why don't people inject alcohol or just skip the nitrogen in NOS and use pure oxygen? Or why not have a "wet" system that uses alcohol and either NOS or O2?

In order to fully understand why this is the case, you need to understand the chemistry if the combustion engine.
As everyone else here has indicated, fuel, oxygen and heat are all needed for the fire.
But the fire itself is not what causes the propulsion.
When the fuel is introduced with the air, there is another natural element in the mix; NITROGEN. Our atmosphere is roughly 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, and somewhere around 1.2% other (argon, methane, CO2, ozone, etc.)
When the spark is introduced to the fuel and air under pressure (compression) the ignition does not force the piston to move. The fire causes RAPID expansion of the NITROGEN gas, which causes the piston to move.
If you introduced pure oxygen, and eliminated the nitrogen, you would have to totally re-engineer the engine to add huge volumes of fuel, and there would be nothing left to cause the piston to move. All of the fuel and oxygen would have been consumed. Though there would have been SOME expansion of gasses, there would not be nearly enough for motion.

NOS is a company that makes nitrous injection systems. If you are so convinced that your ideas will work better than N2O, why don't you get a NOS system and but the stuff you listed into the N2O tank and try it?

One reason is pure oxygen will cause a too learn state causing a loss of power and possible damage to the engine. You would have to compensate by injecting more fuel in to the chamber. Just because oxygen is flammable does not mean more is a good thing. The other reason is you have to have a way to inject it. Unless you plan on keeping your tank above 80 PSI all the time you would never get the same amount of oxygen in to the engine each time you inject it. Now on with alcohol. They run them in races all the time. The problem, Very expensive to install and set up. Have you looked at the price of alcohol lately? It’s almost 6.75 a gallon. Even in a small bottle you would be spending an arm and a leg to keep it going. Not to mention it does not mix will with other Carbon based fuels. You either run it exclusively or you mix it with ethanol based fuels. It burns twice as hot as gas and will also cause pinging in the engine.

How long does it take to drive Route 66?

Alcohol is a poor choice. There is less energy (BTU's) in a gallon of alcohol than a gallon of gasoline. Pure oxygen would cause a lean condition unless you had a way to compensate with the correct amount of fuel. Nitrous Oxide is a catalyst that carries more oxygen and as it enters the combustion chamber. It also cools the incoming mixture as it expands. It is a cost effective power adder that if used judiciously is safe and relatively predictable unlike pure O2 or alcohol.

How much is it to install this?

dude NOS is just a highly flammable gas that Super Cools the air so it allows way more air and fuel to enter the same space in the piston once ignited it is Super heated and now you have a Super amount of air in the combustion chamber , it's more about temperature than anything else

if you port concentrated oxygen into your engine your motor will explode.
