Can you identify the medallion in this photo?

Question:
My father gave me this object (a medallion or emblem of some kind), and I know it's automobile-oriented. It's about an inch and a half tall, looks like it's from the 70's, and I have a vague recollection of seeing it at some point in my life, but I can't place what it is or what it represents.
