FYI, if the bottom of your rear bumper can clear the top of the curb, there's nothing wrong with lightly tapping the curb with your rear tire so that you know where it is and then pulling up a bit before turning the wheel to the right.
How do car button-starts work?

Then slowly back your car until the front wheel is about even with the back wheel of the parked car. Park the car less than eighteen inches from the curb and turn your wheels in the direction of the curb (uphill turn them towards the right and downhill to the left).
