Question:
My partner told me this afternoon that he is going out with some mates over the weekend and that they are going to a raceway that has free entry and then you pay $25 and you can drag against someone else and that the only rules are that you were a helmet and your car is streetlegal. Is this legal or is he playing with fire? I am in Australia and have never heard of this before.

How many cars are there in Cairo- Egypt?
It is legal,no cops and no tickets but with all track races if he has a crash his car insurance will not cover the car or him.Accidents can happen on a track even a 1/4 mile race you can hit a guard rail or just loose control and flip the car.
I have seen people die at the track when the car bursts in to flames or has flipped.
Not a pretty site.
He needs a good helmet and a good seat belt and a fire extinguisher that is close by in hands reach before he leaves the house.
I need a car. I'm looking to spend no more than 3k. It just has to work and be safe. Any advice?
I know some places are starting that, as a way to cut down on illegal street racing. I know when I was young, I would race at the dragstrip. It was a sanctioned 1/8 mi track. At the time you didn't need a helmet, but that was a long time ago. So yeah, I believe him. Why not try it yourself.
Are dumb or something?
Sure, as long as permission is granted from the owner of the property. Of course, your insurance won't be valid for any damage that occurs when racing.

These sorts of drag strips are all over the United States. They're safe and (unless Australian law is very different, which I doubt) completely legal. I've been to several, and the only time I saw anyone wreck a car was a wild wheelstanding Camaro that came down on the guardrail. Nobody was hurt. Are Nissan Skylines and Toyota Supras Illegal in the US?
