What are the best things to use to clean the INSIDE of my car windshield? I'm asking for a good cleaner AND cleaning "tool" (paper towel, cloth, etc).
No matter what I've used, I always have horrible streaks left! This sometimes impairs my ability to see at night when I've got other cars' headlights reflecting on it. If it's cold out &/or there's condensation, the defroster/defogger on my car is complete crap (takes forever &/or doesn't work so well) so half the time I have to keep wiping my windshield off to see & this makes the streaking worse once it's dry. I'd just like to find something that cleans well after an incident like that happens. Any good suggestions?

FYI: Glass is in good condition, Windex does NOT work, Newspaper & paper towels do NOT work (makes it worse!), There's NO greasy film & NO smoke film because I do NOT smoke.

The cleaning agent does not matter as much as people think it does. I used to detail cars for extra cash for a couple of years in college. (it beat selling pizza).Just expirement with different cleaners. Even the ones that stated they are streak free will still streak.

First make sure that the glass is cool. Not sitting in direct sunlight. Hot glass will streak not matter what you do to it. Park your car in the shade for awhile before cleaning the glass or in a garage. Once it is cooled off use whatever brade of cleaner you choose ( I use ZEP glass cleaner) all the time with great results. Also get some lint free towels from the auto store or brown paper towels. Terry cloth will leave lint all over the place. Apply a light even amount of cleaner to the surface and let it sit for a minute. Most cleaners have an acid or ammonia in it that will break down the oils that get trapped in the pores of the glass. These oils are what causes the streaks, not so much the cleaner. Then wipe away the cleaner. I have found it useful to wipe in straight lines when possible to minimize circles / swirls if you do get some streaks. You may have to clean the glass several times due to the oils and grims that have collected over time in the pores. If that does not work there are several high strength glass cleaners w/ strong acids in them that you can obtain from Janitorial Suppliers will definately do the trick. Just make sure to cover you dash or some of them will ruin it permenately.
use white vinegar and white cofffee filters.
Go to an auto parts store and get auto glass cleaner, and use newspaper to wipe and dry. Don't put a ton on and change your newspaper frequently. Auto glass cleaner is typically almost pure alcohol and evaporates away leaving no residue. Changing your wiping material frequently keeps from redistributing the crap.

Even though this may smear a tiny amount, it will create a film between the air and the glass and will prevent condensation, I use it all the time.

Try using a methylated spirits and water mix (use a spray bottle with 1 part metho to 5 parts of water), whilst rubbing in circles using a dry cloth. I find this works brilliantly as any excess metho and water evaporates as you are rubbing with the cloth leaving no streaks at all.I also use a little metho in the car's washer water and to clean all the windows and mirrors in my house - no streaks ever and much cheaper than commercial branded window washers.

the streaks r from dirt built up. u r actually pushing it around if u use the same cloth or towel. try wiping down 2 or 3 times with paper towels n tap water. leave drying time between each cleaning. depending on where u live, your water source could be from a well. if it's the case try bottled or distilled H20.
