I got a new car recently and haven't received my license plates yet.

I drove it to my university and parked it in the parking structure there, but forgot to put up my parking permit, and got cited for it.

But I'm wondering, if my car doesn't have plates (and the citation references that there's no plate number), couldn't I potentially just not pay it and get away with it? It's a rather hefty fine and I've been good about my parking permit ever since then.

How about copying your permit and send it in with your ticket stating you just forgot!That's not ethical, you messed up! fess up! Go to the office and pay the fine. You wouldn't want something as silly as that coming up to bite you later. Imagine, you might run for president someday!

Assuming you park in the same area daily, and assuming it was the campus police that gave you the ticket. They will probably remember that car and will see the new plate when you get it.I would try and get it straightened out now, go to the campus police station or wherever you need to go and explain things to them. That would be better than not getting your diploma when you graduate because you owe fines plus interest. (Seen it happen)

If you have a permit but forgot to put it up... they definitely have your vin number in their system. However, at my school you can just go down to the parking office and turn in an appeals form. If they have a permit on file for the car it is almost 100% sure that they will dismiss the ticket.If you were at a relay..like relay for life..what would you buy there..?
My friend takes the license plate off his R1 when he parks on campus, and he has been ticket free for several semesters. It is not possible for private parties to look up the owners information using a vin number. This works pretty well for motorcycles... they are already complicated to tow, and you need to always make sure to chain the bike to something when doing this.
You have to pay it. When there's no plate on your car, they go by the vin number. Not paying it will prevent you from getting a plate for it.
doesnt matter about a plate, if you dont pay the ticket they will just follow the paper trail, vin number -to- temporary stickernumber -to-waiting license plate number-to- you...it may take them a few, but in the mean time the penalties rack up.

Don't the rules say you have to show your permit to park, or be subject to a fine? You didn't, so you are. They have a VIN so if you don't pay they can find you.
