I believe the answer is as long as the gross weight of the trailer is less then 10,000 pounds and the total GVWR of truck and trailer is less than 26,001 pounds you only need the correct license for the vehicle towing the trailer. This is true in NH and IA and all the US states are supposed to be standardized now.

ray j has it right you will need the same licence as someone that drives a 3 or 5 ton if the unit goes over 26000,this is why internationals new large pickup is rated just below that,so anyone can drive it
