Road congestion?

would it not be better to ban all vehicles with even number registrationsone day, and all those with odd numbers the next day from using the roads. It would cut congestion by half.no need for charges then.

I use my car for work,i have no choice as their is no public transport to get me into work for 0630am.My shift pattern is 6 days worked 3 off.If what you propose ever took off it would lose me money.Instead of being able to work 6 days I'm now down to 3.Who is going to make the lost wages up?My Employer?The Government?Don't think so.Think about it.
Before anybody says walk.i travel 20 miles each way and work 12 hr shifts.Walking is not an option.

They tried this in Athens around 25 years ago, but people just bought an extra car with the opposite type of number to the one already owned.
The simplest style of congestion charging would be to do away with road tax and add a few pence to the price of petrol. 5p/ltr would equate (approximately) to £140 per year tax for a car covering 15000 miles per year and returning 30 mpg. I use these figures as an average of today's motoring. Obviously the more inefficient the car or the greater the mileage the more drivers and owners would pay. I might just keep a few people out of their cars for unnecessary journeys such as the school run or a trip to the local shop.
