Question:
I've been thinking about building my own go kart but i'm only 14 and I don't know much about engines so it would be nice if I could figure out how to put an engine to use. Such as how to connect it to the wheels and make them turn and where to put the clutch and gears and all that. I don't want instructions for the complete go kart because i'm designing it myself.
Answers:
Does the tomtom one have detailed maps of europe or is it just the major roads?
If you use an upright lawnmower engine there is a centifigul clutch on the side add a sprocket and one to the rear axle and there you go. If you use a 50cc motorcycle/scooter engine the there is no need for a clutch and the sprocket is there for you. Anything bigger then that and your parents would be very angry that I told you so use you imagination and good luck with the build ...Don't be afraid to ask questions if you are not sure what to do. It is better to be safe than sorry. The simplest and cheapest would be to get an axle and weld a sprocket to it for a chain drive system. The centrifugal clutch should be on the motor output shaft. The next way would be an old lawn mower axle to use but it all depends on the engine you use.

It would be best to have it chain or belt driven.
There are several methods of transferring the power from the engine to the wheels.
Looking at some of these sites should give you some ideas to go from.
