Front wheel or 4 wheel drive with tires that have high wet traction rating. Rear wheel drive is definitely not a good choice. The brand, body style, and type of drive are all irrelevant to driving in the rain if the tires cannot displace the water effectively, and make good contact with the road surface. Once you have a really good 'rain' tire then all those other considerations come in to effect. Ditto for driving on snow / ice.
