I co-signed on a vehicle with another person. It has been a year now and I want to be released. How?

i co-signed on a minivan from a dealership a year ago with another person. The car is not for me it is for the other person. I just helped her get the car. I was told that after 6 months my name could be removed. How do i get it off my credit report as well as dmv...any ideas?
