a theft deterrent system would be something that disables a vehicle or device ... makes the vehicle less appealing for theives.
You could have an ignition cut off switch, coded stereo, removeable face plate stereo, lo jack ... these are things that don't make an alarm sound but don't allow the theif access to his goods.

Why do we allow foreign cars to be sold in the UK, should we be like Malaysia where they offer local product?

hello, you know I was wondering this several years ago on my f 150 has a light in dash that blinks "anti theft" right....well one day I had the windows down and locked the truck by mistake reached in thru the window opened the door and the horn started blaring . So my answer would be try to roll windows down...lock vehichal..wait a few ..then try open door from inside, waiting a few gives the sytem time to set itself...that will let you know if you have a alarm or not.
