Gas fumes in 01 Subaru?

Question:
Why, when I warm up my car in the winter ( with the heat on) does it fill up with gas fumes? It will go away when I start driving but it comes back if I have to stop at a stopsign or light.

Can a all wheel drive be towed with out a trailer or will it mess it up?
