How can a submarine run on silent. Surely there will be engine nosies?
If it is all metal, - MEK will remove everything Use plastic gloves(you will have to make sure they don't dissolve them). You can literally wipe the paint off with a cotton or wool rag,- if you use synthetic fibres it will "eat them too"-- and use good ventillation (prefferably a fan at your back!) This stuff will literally eat anything than can be painted on a piece of metal, -- when totally clean, it removes 100% of a l all "residue" so that primer will adhere!!how to change my power tilt/trim to manual(temporarlly)?
MEK Is "methyl ethyl ketone", -- it is one of chemicals used in paint remover! We used it at the aircraft factory to clean aluminum before putting on primer (and a host of ther cleanup jobs). It is available at most paint stores, comes in two consistencys, - "thin" and a thicker type that is used as "glue" for "welding" plexigalss together! It is brushable, - but you must use "natural bristle" brushes with wooden handles, as "synthetic ones dissolve in the stuff). as a matter of fact it will clean out "old expensive brushes" in a very short time, -- like "camel hair brushes" that housepainters use, - for instance. It will dissolve and remove stuff that is many years old - till there is no residue left in the brush, - in a very short time!
why does my buzzer ring in a high pitch?
Keep off skin as much as possible, and don't lay wet rags brushes etc on anything that it can "eat, such as rubber , plastic buckets etc! Don't use in un-ventilated place! You will know why as soon as you get a smell of it!
If a yacht is advertised as a Nicholson, could it have been built in Essex boatyard at St Osyth?
i own a repair shop, and if i were you id use a chemical stripper on it,its a lot easier to use ,and works really well also,i use it a lot i restore antique auto,s ,and it has helped me a lot,i do some sand blasting,,but this is a messy job,and prefer the chemical stripper, you can get it at any wal mart ,or k-mart,and any hard ware store has it, the best brand i have found so far is ,,zip strip,,it works very well ,but that would be the easiest way i know of to do it,,good luck,,i hope this help,s.and have a happy thanksgiving.need something for hard water spots on my 2003 victory red silverodal?
If your restoring it for looks I guess you can use some DAD'S paste stripper. It seems to be the best that I have ever used for projects such as yours. I hope your not thinking of running an old Johnson with it. The inside of that tank is in worst condition than the out. All that rust will clog the the carb. Very very rarely has there been a metal gas tank ,pressurised by the crankcase, that has survived for this long. Would not recomend using it in less for show. Hope this helps.kevincoughlan1@btinternet.com?
i have 6 of these and use them all the time on my old johnsons. inside is fine. not sure where you get your infoI'm sorry mike, but I just can't believe you have six of those tanks in good condition. The last production of the duel line pressure tanks was in 1959. If I remember right they were used in 18hp and below. The rebuild kits would cost you a pretty penny. A metal tank 47 years old or older and you use them every day, 6 of them ! Most of the old engines were converted to fuel pump because of the lack of tanks. You've got your self a small fortune there.
please send me your email address and i will send you pics of 3 perfectly functional tanks i have here right now. the others are on my boats. these tanks hold up very well and parts are not only easy to get but also cheap. i have 3 1957 johnson cd-14 5.5 hp motors and 2 10 hp evinrudes that these are used on all the time and have been for the last 10 years that i have owned them. i dont know where your info comes from but sorry to say its very false. as i said i will be happy to send pics. check ebay. they are there all the time. they usually go for around 70 to 100 dollars.
