I'm comparing pricing between two different haulers and they are quite different......1st quote is $1.25/mile one way......2nd quote is $1.50/mile one way. Are these fair quotes for transporting my new boat on a new trailer for me? Are these quotes cheap or expensive? What is the average price to pay for this service?

As far as the cost per mile you are being quoted, both are normal. For $1.50/mile, ask them straight up why they are $.25 higher than another quote you’ve received. There is nothing wrong with telling them you have a lower quote and they may be able to actually justify the extra expense. After all, this is a very large investment you are talking about. If the extra $.25 will get you a company with more experience and better equipment along with covering escort fees where needed and permits, GO FOR IT.Another thing you will want to find out is if they base the mileage on hub miles, Ran McNally, Household Mover’s Guide, or whatever. If it is Household Mover’s Guide, you will be paying anywhere from 5% – 15% extra. You don’t want Hub miles either. With hub miles you will be paying for every extra “detour” they make into a truck stop or parking area.
