Question:
I need to know what sort of boat it is that Robert Shaw owns as a fishing vessel 'The Orca'. How would this type of boat be classified/ described- and as it is a fishing boat relying on diesel power, why does it have a huge mast?

Personal watercraft crankshaft tools?
The "Orca" of jaws fame started life as a "Mathews" 35ft. day cruiser of the late "50's". For the movie they added the "bow-way" and the "net mast/boom" as if she was a commercial type net trawler. Many of these type and era vessels saw hard work as commercial sport or net fishing craft. Most were powered by either Detroit diesel or Buda diesel engines. Remember movies are magic and just because it may look outstanding and like no other it probably started life humbly. How much is my old outboard motor worth?

I don't know exactly what kind of boat it was, but the other day on Mythbusters they were doing a shark special, and used a boat like the Orca in some of their tests, so try looking up the Mythbusters on the net and you should be able to find out about it.Where can I find 1976 Mercury 85 HP Motor parts?
It is called a Trawler.I had a 1993 175hp evinrude spitfire direct injection installed.?
simply put, it's a motor/sailer. hope i spelled that right. come on science teacher!! when out in the ocean sails are great. when in the channel or the harbor, UUGGHH!! uh, i thought it was the OCRA??duh??It would be classified as an 'MV'. The "huge" mast was pure Hollywood. "The Orca" would have to be unfit for commercial fishing to fail so quickly as did the script require. Tons of net and fish are what fishing masts are rigged for. There are fancy-boy boats with a sail above what used to be bloody deck but that is to keep bums from burnt. The hull I saw was not like any west coast types I've seen working for a living so suspect it was dressed-up by some stage carpenders to look like something else. Not a lot of seamen doing movie reviews for newspapers, you know. Robert Shaw would be better advised to
get his sharks from restaurant menu in Tokyo.
