Need to build a raft for the raft race.
Have no materials and no experience of building a raft.

What is a nautical mile?

What are some good things to use? That are CHEAP/FREE and easy to get. I have 3-4 months.

Depends where you are. Near a large river with many houseboats on it? Their flotation is often ripped out with current and wind and comes floating down the river to be picked up by anyone with the will and time. Have seen large Styrofoam floats for docks cut into kayak shapes and paddled in some races. Use 55 gallon barrels or even milk jugs. Look on yahoo groups/freecycle or craigslist for free items you might use. Go the traditional rout and use pigs bladders- no one will be anywhere near you.
