Absolutely. I've had years of success using a 3 HP motor on a 14' aluminum boat. It's a heck of a lot faster than paddling and it barely uses any fuel. Mind you, you're not going to pull a skier with it, but it's perfect for fishing small lakes. Figure about 10-12 miles per hour with a 4 hp.

i think a 4 hp will move you but you will be putting around.i think a 7.5 is okay but 10 woudl be perfect especially if you are 2- 200lb guysIts a bit too small for a main motor, but it would make a great kicker motor for trolling, with a 12 ft aluminum. Get a 10 -12 horse for a main and you will have a great fishing machine.
