The serial numbers are assigned as the motors are produced, so to say a horse power starts here, may not always be the case as different production runs are decided on demand.

If I remember right the last 2 digits is the year of the motor. you have #A925961 so Im guessing it must be about a 1961. If its not the 61 then It might be a 1959.Moving the boat to another state.?

Let me add, Mariner engines produced from 1974 thru 1987 did not carry a model year designation. Mariner dealers had been directed to sell Mariner engines by feature rather than by model year. Engines produced one year and sold the next year were considered current engines of the year sold. This applies to all 1987 and prior models and serial numbers regardless of where the engine was produced. Models and serial numbers listed as 1988 and later would be considered model year engines. How did you come up with a 50 ?................................ have several PDF files containing model and serial #'s with American and Canadian starts that clearly indicate the years of Mercury/Mariner outboards, but what confuses me is the hp.
