At the bottom of the outboard you have the lower unit .There is the cavitation plate. That must line up with the bottom of the boat when outboard is fully down. You do have a little leeway in up or down height 2inches. But you should try to get it perfect as possible

beware, if you do any cutting on the transom you are seriously weakening the boats structure! this will have to be capped off,fiberglass i assume.you may also have to restrengthen the whole transom if it wasnt meant for that large of a motor.
