What lower gear units will interchange with '73 65hp evinrude outboard engines?

our lower gear unit on the motor was changed but it engages in opposite position as shifter does. we have already checked linkage connections everything is hooked up properly. need to kow what will interchange with this motor

check it again as you can reverse the linkage at the motor base otherwise use it as a boat anchor

Make sure this is not a counter-rotator though. I don't think they made counterrotators for such small motors, but check for sure. You don't want to be blasting around in the reverse gear because the reverse gears are not matched to the pinion and will burn out fast.
