Question:
I have a Mercury V6 seadoo jet boat that is only getting power on three cylinders all on the same side. I tried replacing the spark plugs and then the fuel filter. There is only one fuel pump I am not sure if it is the switchbox that may be malfuncting or if it is something I overlooked. Threres 6 coils and three carbs. I'm confused!

If you have an entire bank of cylinders out it could be a couple of things I can think of. It may be a switch box. If you have access to merc test equipment (voltmeter with a direct voltage adapter) and the test manual you could check it out. Or you could swap positions with both switch boxes and the other bank goes dead you know its the box. But it could also be the stator and you would again need the testers.when doe's a boat become a ship?
mark t is right. you can swap wires on the coils to find out part of the puzzle, then you can swap the red & blue and the red w/white with the blue w/white to find out if it's the stator. actually it's a job for a pro.what is the largest marine diesel made today? and what is the horsepower?
To test the switchbox all you need to do is remove the stator and trigger wires off the 1 that is running on all cylinders and put them on to the other 1 and see if that is the problem. Or if you have the correct testing equipment you could do output test on the stator, trigger and both switchboxes. How did they join wood together 100`s of years ago so ships wouldn`t leak?
