Question:
Re: my last question...
need help getting a fly wheel off of mercury outboard?
Could you please give me a rough idea of the type of craft (the most basic suited to the purpose) suited to crossing the Atlantic?
I want something good and basic but still up to the challenge- crew of two, more simple the better.
The whole thing is built around a minimal budget, as little cash spent as possible although security and safety are still, obviously paramount. I just want the barest, minimal yet still sensible boat for the job.
on which date do colleges close for christmas?
A brief list of neccesary equipment (not inclusing obvious things like life jackets/ radio etc) would be very gratefully appreciated, as would a link to any picture of article on the sort of boat you're describing... just to give me a sketchy idea of the sort of boat you mean. Thank you very much!
How can I find the current position-location of a commercial ship (in the internet)?
As you may have guessed I am not a sailor, but I've entered an ocean-themed short-story writing competition (wager with friends) so a bit of background info would be great (the whole thing is light-hearted, remember!)
Answers:
I suggest you get "Ocean Cruising On A Budget" by Anne Hammick, from your library, it will give you tons of information (which it seems you need) - this space (and time) don't permit of any kind of proper answer.
Is there any way to fix a crack on the lower unit of an outboard boat motor?
When it comes to sailing? If the 'craft' is beyond the size of a sunfish (brand), I'm swamped. And 'sailing' over the ocean blue? Ha!

Just thinking about rocking seas makes my stomach light . . . bye.

go to the harbur patrol and they will give every thing you nee to know do`nt run all over one stop shop for all the infoI am doing a survey for school about baots. What is your favorite kind of boat?
You should read the book called DOVE a 16 year old took a small sloop around the world and descibes his adventers quite well including the outfitting of the boat this was done in the 1960's. So you might want to include the following new pieces of equipment an emergency transponder called an EPR. It sends out a homing signal when dumped in the water and acts as a bouy. A GPS chart plotter and a satellite phone. you would also want a wind/solar/water powered generator to recharge the batteries. boat motor should be diesel to reduce the chance of fire. The cooking fuel should be propane as it is easy to use and you can smell it if it leaks. A back up sextant incase of electrical failure. extra lines and sails you will use different sails for different wind conditions. The jib sail comes in many sizes and thicknesses to handle different strength winds. You will want at least two sets of reefs in your main sail to reduce the size of the main in high wind conditions. You will also want a sea anchor to help slow the boat in a storm other wise the boat will slam into every on coming wave doing much damage to the bow. a safety harness is to be worn at all times when on deck. A Radar deflector so that ships can see you at night on their radar. food for two to three weeks. A full tool set things will break and need replacing like wenches and clamps and pulleys. perhaps a survival suit as the Atlantic is very cold and will kill you quickly if you are not protected from hypothermia. What is thrust on a crankshaft? end play ?
First, it needs to be a sailing craft because a small boat can not carry enough fuel to cross the ocean. 30 feet is adequate. You must carry enough water , although there is a water maker. A sloop rig is easy to handle but some people like a jigger sail also on the mizzen mast. Canned and dry food. It is necessary to tae piloting courses to learn about currents. Weather courses are good. Be prepared for any temperature. Crossing an ocean one sails all night so hours at watch are set. It is good to have RADAR to watch for large ships. A blue water boat has a good keel, sails manageable from the helm, safety lines to attach the skipper.Solid, as opposed to fast.
Your ideal/favorite canoe trip?
Maybe an older boat, or proven design, deep keel and "Sea-kindly" hull design - one that is going to ride easily in deep-ocean swells or storms.
How to make unsaturated polyster resin ( fibreglass resin ) ?
Lots of storage, for food, water and medical supplies.
i would like to find some free gifts like or car for people that don't have any money?
Good radio and navigation systems, and some kind of wind or solar charger to keep the batteries topped up - relying on an engine-powered generator is unwise, to say the least.
Is there a unique sailing term for outfitting, or provisioning a boat with crew and supplies?
A spare one of *everything* !!
Heavy-weather clothing.
I just sold my boat on http://www.littlebaymotors.com for free. Should I send them money anyway?
A good deep-water life raft, with food, water and signalling supplies aboard
Can someone tell me what an air draught is on a yacht please?
Plenty of sunscreen and reading material
I grew up sailing on the Chesapeake an we had a 19' Catalina a 27' Catalina and a Watkins 33'. I personally wouldn't try an Atlantic crossing with only 2 people on anything smaller than the 33' but the 27' Catalina could have handled if properly equipped.
As far as equipment. An auto sailer, GPS, an EPIR, Marine radio, Radar (as you want to try and steer clear of storms as much as possible), depth finder, Enough food and water for the journey mostly canned and nonperishable items as smaller vessels have limited refrigeration and you could fish for fresh meat along the way. Entertainment items for down time like books, cards & other games as electronic items want to be limited in use to save bateries and gas so they are ready as needed no gas stations in the middle of the ocean to refuel at.
I could think of lots more stuff I'd bring but this is some of the most important things.
