Question:
i got a 60 hp how do i put oil in the lower unit
Answers:
How did mariners measure boat speed with a rope with knots tied in it?
With most lower units, there are 2 oil access holes, and they are filled from the bottom hole. Usually easier to drain the old oil out when you do this, and also a good way to check for water. But, if you just want to top off, then open the bottom hole first, and insert the fill adapter. Its a small cone that adapts the hose from the pump in the oil bottle to the lower unit. Or if you are using a squeeze bottle, sometimes they come with a similar adapter already threaded onto the top. Once the adapter is connected, remove the screw (plug) from the upper access hole. Then start squeezing oil in from the bottom hole until it runs out the top. Then plug the top hole first, then quickly pull out the adaptor, and plug the bottom hole. By opening and closing the top hole that way, it helps prevent the oil from puring out the bottom too fast. There are two flat head screws about 1/2" in diameter, one over the other on the side of the foot. The bottom one drains the lower unit, replace it and use the top one to fill. You may need a hand impact to get the screws loose.
20 knots - possible with a displacement hull boat?
DO NOT "OVER TORQUE" the drain/vent screws on the lower unit, the housing is "Aluminum" and may strip. It's always a good Idea to pick up extra screws at the outboard shop, just make "SNUG".More Questions & Answers ...
