I'm a scuba diver and see many sharks here off the coast of California, but have never felt threatened by them. However they attack surfers infrequently. If they see or smell something bleeding or otherwise in distress, that is usually the trigger that will prompt an attack.

Gorden has it right I dive a lot in the Fla Keys was about 4 miles out off Islamarada, I speared a tarpon about a 40 lb one tookit up to the boat, there was blood in the water two small bull sharks came up and started to circle me. within minutes

acting weird. made several passes at me as I was retreating
back toward the boat without warning he started toward me
at a pretty fast speed Luckily he was above me and to my right I had really good visibility I had no choice I shot him with my

the boat might have chummed up the waters unknowingly and the sharks found out where it was coming from. (there not that stupid as they out survived the dinos) the boat might have been seen as a threat to the sharks territory and they tryed to defend there own. or they could have been in heat. if sharks get in heat.dogs and some humans get pissy why not sharks.
