There should be a sticker on your boat that list the recommended motor hp for the boat. Insurance agencies look for the sticker when insuring your boat. (Canadian Standards)if that's what you have, use it, but be careful. most 12' boats are limited to 6hp.

Yeah a 9.9 HP is more then enough for a 12' Vee hull. My Mercury 310 Sport inflatable is rated at 9.9 hp. It is 10'1" and I do use a 9.9 and believe me that is alot of motor. Look into less HP and save alot of money. 6 HP is alot of motor too.What does the "S.S." in front of a boat's name stand for?
check the capacity plate on the boat for max H.P. rating, about 75% of that is where you want to be, it has good fuel economy, and enough power to get the Hell out of the way of something, fast enough. A 9.9 would work.Building Titanic 2 asking for trouble ?
i worked with boats for a while and all i can say is that some people put too much horse power on those small vessels. no more than 10 horse power. you dont want to give it throttle and have the thing fly up in the front so if you keep the engine size small it will work perfectly with a small boat. I perfer honda's too. great engines. easy to start.I have the same boat and I put triple 300 Merc's on mine with no problem.
