I think I have bad fuel in on old chrysler 35hp outboard. How do I change it?

Question:
I have just bought an old 3.6 metre runabout and I think the fuel is bad as it hasn't been run for 2 years. The first time I took it out I just topped the tank up (about 20 litres) put in the 2 stroke oil and off I went. I couldn't get it to plane or go faster than 5 or 6 knots so I am trying to sort the problem out. Do I need to empty all the fuel out and start again? What about the fuel lines, filters etc. The filter looks fine, no gunk at all. Also how do I clean the carburetor as someone said I should check this too? (and where is it?) Thanks for everyones help

If you suspect fuel contamination, yes, replace it all, flush the tank and lines, change the filter, flush the filter housing, drain and flush the carb.. if it has a float bowl, empty that and check it for contamination... don't forget that it may not be visible dirt, it might be, say, water.
