Do you like working on engines? Do you like boats? I went to engineman school when I joined the USCG and it was a great way to get started. I learned alot about engines of all types and got to work on all sorts of them. It is not a clean job, but is satisfying. Eventually I got my Captains license and having the engine background allows you to understand all aspects of boat operations. Its a great skill to have, and it pays well.Why do I always see water being pumped out of a ship's hull? What did they do before water pumps?
like mark said it is not clean, while you are learning- not good money, and hard work..tight spots sometimes, with dirty , heavy, very heavy parts.however when you learn it and work on your own you can make very good money, in south florida about 80 per hour, working for someone else about 12 to 15 starting, 18 to 25 whne you know what you are doingAre there any regulations to follow when boating a river on an inflatable raft?

ANYWAY BEING A MARINE DIESEL MECHANIC IS TRYING TO KEEP YOUR WORK CLEAN ENOUGH SO AS NOT TO DIRTY ANYTHING UP WHILE YOU WALK THROUGH THE LIVING ROOM/SALON/GALLEY TO REACH AN OPENING THAT SEEMS INCREDIABLY SMALL EVEN BEFORE ENTERING ONLY TO FIND THAT SOME ONE HAS CRAMMED 2 LARGE ENGINES ANOTHER ENGINE DRIVEN GENERATOR 2 OR 3 BATTERY BANKS SOMETHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE FOR REFRIGERATION OR IS IT AC? NOT TO THE MENTION THE NEEDED LINES AND CABLES AND PIPES TO RUN ALL THIS CRAP AND SOMEHOW YOU NEED TO GET YOUR SELF WEDGED IN BETWEEN IT ALL JUST TO GET TO A FUEL PUMP OR WHATEVER AND THE WHOLE TIME YOUR WORKING ON THE DAMN ENGINE YOUR GETTING ITCHY FROM THE FIBERGLASS AND PISSED OFF ABOUT THE FACT THAT NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF BOAT 16 FOOTER ALL THE WAY TO 1000 FEET IT SEEMS THAT THE ENGINE ROOM IS NOT REALLY A ROOM AT ALL BUT MORE OF LACK OF ENGINE ROOM AREA. BUT HEY IF YOU LIKE BOATS AND BEING ON THE WATER IT HAS GOOD DAYS TO AND IT WILL KEEP YOU IN SHAPE JUST SO YOU'LL FIT INTO THE SPACE YOU NEED TO GET INTO. SO ENJOY. BESIDES YOU CAN TAKE THE TRADE OF DIESEL MECHANIC ANYWHERE YOU WANT TO GO LAND OR SEA OUT ON A FARM OR SOME HIDDEN ISLAND PARADISE YOUR BOUND TO FIND YOURSELF NEEDED AS A MECHANIC LETS FACE IT **** BREAKS AND WHEN YOU CAN FIX IT, PEOPLE THANK YOU AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THEY PAY YOU FOR IT.
